Beavers (boys and girls ages 5-7)
Sharing the Adventure

Fun and friendship are the cornerstones of the Beaver program.  Through an adventurous program of outdoor activities, creative play, music, and cooperative games, Beavers enjoy time with their friends (and meet new ones), learn how to get along within a group, and develop the confidence to be themselves.

Beavers share many outdoor adventures with their friends in the colony.  Nature walks, short hikes, tree plantings and family sleep overs give Beavers a taste of outdoor fun.  Through these activities, Beavers develop an appreciation and a sense of caring for the environment.

Beavers are a vital part of the community, country and world in which they live.  Visits to parks, power plants, fire and police stations thrill young Beavers and illustrate the many important facets of their community.

The Beaver program emphasizes having fun while encouraging children to feel good about themselves, their friends and family, God, and nature. Beavers helps children learn basic social skills and gain self confidence. The Beaver program promotes activities that encourage children to:

  • find examples of their own spiritual beliefs
  • experience and express love and joy
  • be healthy and have good feelings about themselves
  • develop a sense of belonging and sharing in small group activities
  • develop a sense of cooperation through non-competitive activities

The Beaver program is built around a lively variety of games, crafts, music, storytelling, playacting, spiritual fellowship and the outdoors. Beaver activities stress cooperation and teamwork, and can involve the whole family.

The outdoors is an essential part of the Beaver program. Weekend events, picnics, short nature hikes and family based camping opportunities round out the Beaver experience.

Beavers meet in a group called a colony. The colony is split into smaller groups called lodges. There is one leader for every five Beavers. Each Beaver learns a promise, law and motto to help guide their personal development.

Beaver Promise:
I promise to love God and help take care of the world.

Beaver Law:
A Beaver has fun, works hard and helps family and friends.

Beaver Motto:
Sharing, Sharing, Sharing

We've prepared a PARENTS GUIDE to the Beaver program for those who would like more information.

Rachel, a Beaver leader says:
"I am a leader and meeting the children each week is lots of fun because they always want to learn lots of new fun things. We bring in special guests, take them to special places and they always seem to want to learn more things. I like working with children and they seem to like me!"

David, 6, says:
"I like Beavers a lot.  I like to make new friends and do crafts and stuff.  I don't like thunder!"

Tyler, 5, writes:
"Hi!  My name is Tyler.  I am 5 years old.  This is my first year with Beavers and I love it so much.  We do lots of fun things together like playing games, sleep overs, skating and going to the park for bar-b-ques.  I can't wait for Beavers to start again in September."

Matthew, 6, writes:
"Hi! I am almost 7 and last year was my first year with Beavers. It was fun to meet and play with other boys each week, do a craft and walk around our neighborhood.  We did a garbage pick up, and we even sold apples to people on the sidewalk one afternoon. We went skating and bowling and we tried to go tobogganing, but then there was no snow!

My most favorite time was our spring camping trip in late April.  We slept in a cabin, and painted t-shirts, made Beaver necklaces, and had a big campfire.  On our nature walk we learned how not to get lost, and we climbed up and down a steep river bank (my mom needed some help from the dads)!
I love Beavers!"
